  GenerIA to Deliver the Opening Keynote at MTL connecte 2026

  On Tuesday, October 13, 2026, at 10:00 a.m., Kathleen Jobin, co-founder of GenerIA, will open MTL connecte, Montreal Digital Week, with a keynote set to make an impact.

  Entitled Sovereign and Resource-Efficient AI: From Data to Infrastructure, the keynote begins with a fundamental question: who produces, controls, and derives value from the data that powers AI systems?

  Drawing on experiences and partnerships developed in particular across Quebec, France and Africa, the presentation will explore the connections between regional data, local languages, digital infrastructure and architectural choices. It will examine how AI models can be developed to genuinely address the realities of businesses and regions, without systematically relying on infrastructure and data designed elsewhere.

  The keynote will also offer a perspective for reflection: the pursuit of sovereignty can help us rethink our models toward AI that is more resource-efficient, i.e. indefinitely sustainable in terms of energy consumption, CO₂ emissions, and water stress.

  Gartner positions GenerIA among the main names in sovereign AI

  Sovereign AI is no longer an emerging trend. It is becoming a market. That is one of the key takeaways from Gartner's Emerging Tech: Top-Funded Startups in Sovereign AI and Trust Infrastructure report, published on September 10, 2026.

  After examining nearly 30 startups operating across sovereign AI and trust infrastructure, representing $13.5 billion in funding across 25 deals, Gartner identifies four major segments shaping this emerging ecosystem. GenerIA is featured in the “Sovereign Models & Regional Languages” category, alongside Mistral, Sakana AI, Sarvam AI and Krutrim AI Labs.

  The category reflects a fundamental shift in the AI landscape: organizations increasingly need models that understand local languages, cultural contexts, regulatory frameworks and regional data, rather than relying exclusively on generic, globally hosted foundation models.

  Within this landscape, Gartner highlights GenerIA as a provider of bespoke sovereign AI solutions for public administration and regulated environments, emphasizing our solutions' three defining characteristics: explainability, data sovereignty and resource-efficient AI.

  The positioning closely reflects GenerIA's own trajectory: building sovereign, resource-efficient and explainable AI, designed around the specific requirements of organizations, sectors and territories rather than simply replicating general-purpose models.

  GenerIA has also taken a different path to growth. The company remains self-funded to date, having built its technology, product portfolio and international partnerships progressively across Québec, France, Africa and Latin America.   VivaTech 2026: GenerIA Unveils Heritage AI, an AI Solution for Cultural Heritage and Art Collections

  At VivaTech 2026, GenerIA offered an exclusive preview of Heritage AI, its new artificial intelligence solution designed for museums, cultural institutions and heritage organizations.

  Following Civic AI, its suite of off-the shelf agents that helps local authorities unlock the value of their data and makes public services more accessible to citizens, GenerIA is extending its approach to the promotion and transmission of cultural heritage and knowledge. Within a single solution, Heritage AI brings together a digital preservation library designed for different audiences (including academics, high school students and younger learners), a permanent virtual museum and interactive exhibitions offering varying levels of immersion and interaction through features such as 3D avatars and extensions for video game platforms like Fortnite.

  GenerIA Develops an AI Dedicated to the General History of Africa

  March 10, 2026

  GenerIA is continuing its work to enhance and broaden digital access to the General History of Africa, with the goal of harnessing artificial intelligence technologies to make its sources easier to explore, support research, and facilitate the sharing of knowledge about the history of the African continent.

  The project draws on a substantial body of documentary material and explores the potential of Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) technologies to enable more precise inquiry into sources, connect knowledge across materials and facilitate access to complex historical and scholarly content.

  GenerIA's approach seeks to preserve the richness and context of source materials while offering new ways to access knowledge: documentary research, thematic exploration, synthesis and natural-language interaction. It is part of a commitment to sovereign, explainable, and resource-efficient AI, tailored to the needs of institutions, researchers, educators and a range of young audiences, including elementary and high school students.

  Through this project, GenerIA is exploring a new application of its proprietary technologies: making artificial intelligence a tool for preserving, sharing and enhancing documentary heritage, while contributing to the development of solutions suited to the realities and needs of African ecosystems.

  GenerIA and Benin's Senior Government Officials Shape New High-Impact Joint Projects

  February 4, 2026

  At the invitation of the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research of the Republic of Benin, Marie Granier, co-founder of GenerIA, traveled to Cotonou to lay the groundwork for several collaborations focused on sovereign artificial intelligence, research, and data value creation.

  On February 4, 2026, a special meeting at the Ministerial Complex was devoted to prospects for cooperation in research and innovation. The meeting brought together all relevant decision-makers, including Rigatien Tossou, Director of the Minister's Office, and Éric Adja, President of AFRIA (the Francophone Artificial Intelligence Agency). Among the topics discussed in detail was a project to establish a sovereign AI-focused data center, led by the GenerIA Consortium in partnership with several industrial specialists in sovereign infrastructure.

  The mission also enabled GenerIA to define, together with Raymond Adjakpa Abile, Secretary General of the Benin Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCI Benin), the tangible economic benefits of Benin's sovereign AI project: strengthening innovation capacity, advancing the country's digital transformation and creating opportunities to launch innovative local businesses.

  Beyond its economic impact, this project for a sovereign AI center in Benin also carries major cultural and educational significance. At the University of Abomey-Calavi, GenerIA worked with the Dean and Vice Dean of the Faculty of Letters, Languages, Arts and Communication (FLLAC) to outline a particularly promising project to enhance the University's scholarly heritage and the extensive body of doctoral theses produced by its researchers. Its primary objective is to make this knowledge easier to access, search and leverage through artificial intelligence.

  Following the signing of a landmark agreement with the Republic of Guinea (see below), these projects form part of GenerIA's AMBITION 2026 Program, which combines the development of sovereign and resource-efficient AI technologies, applied research, and the creation of partnerships with institutional, academic and business ecosystems. They open new avenues for fruitful cooperation among Quebec, France, and Francophone Africa.

  GenerIA Accelerates Its R&D Through the AMBITION 2026 Program

  Through AMBITION 2026, GenerIA is reaching a new milestone in its Research and Development, furthering its goal of designing artificial intelligence systems that are increasingly high-performing, resource-efficient, sovereign, and aligned with organizations' real-world needs.

  At the heart of the program, Nexus is a new family of generative models developed through GenerIA's R&D efforts. Available in several sizes, Nexus models are designed to address use cases ranging from embedded applications and real-time analytics to intelligent assistants, enterprise agents and complex multimodal applications. The goal is to combine functional performance and adaptability while keeping energy use under control.

  L'Union des Notaires du Québec and GenerIA Partner to Create a Unique, Unified Notarial Platform Powered by a Sovereign, Eco-Responsible AI

  November 18, 2025

  Offering all Québec notaries an online platform that enhances quality of life in their day-to-day practice and significantly improves the quality of services provided to their clients - this is the overarching objective of the project jointly undertaken by L'Union des Notaires du Québec and GenerIA, under the terms of an agreement signed last month.

  This large-scale project aims to position notarial practice at the forefront of what today's digital ecosystem has to offer. Its missions are both multiple and intrinsically complementary: fostering collaboration among firms, facilitating the sharing of skills and resources among professionals for the benefit of a single file, optimizing interactions between notaries and third-party stakeholders (brokers, land surveyors, financial institutions, municipalities, insurers, lawyers, accountants, civil registry authorities, etc.) and providing clients with automated, self-service tracking tools. These technological advances ultimately aim to streamline (and in some cases automate) not only the internal operations of notarial offices but also the relationships between notaries and their clients - particularly with regard to file tracking throughout the entire process, until final completion.

  Jointly led by the UNQ (for the professional and practice-related dimension) and GenerIA (for the technical dimension), this project will leverage GenerIA's AI technologies to offer notaries, their staff and their clients high-level features and automations designed to save valuable time for all stakeholders. The entire platform - including global data, data generated by notaries, AI systems, and their models - will be hosted in Québec within a sovereign, highly secure infrastructure, with no reliance on external cloud services. A single web address - https://portail.unq.legal - will bring together all these resources, providing Québec's notarial community with a simple and unified virtual space that centralizes all the information, resources and functionalities they need on a daily basis to deliver the services their clients expect.

  The GenerIA Consortium Signs a Historic Partnership with the Republic of Guinea to Build the First Sovereign, Inclusive and Eco-Responsible African AI

  GenerIA is proud to announce the signing of a Strategic Memorandum of Understanding with the Republic of Guinea, formalized during the Transform Africa Summit (TAS) in Conakry. This agreement marks a major milestone in GenerIA's mission: making Artificial Intelligence accessible to French-speaking nations through technologies that stand out for their sovereignty, frugality and ethical, eco-responsible design.

  The Guinean government, represented by His Excellency Alpha Bacar Barry, Minister of Higher Education, Scientific Research and Innovation, selected the consortium led by GenerIA to support the country in its ambition to become an African leader in green AI. This strategic decision was praised by Prof. Abdoulaye Baniré Diallo, General Coordinator of the Guinean City of Science and Innovation (CSIG), who highlighted the alignment of the initiative with The Republic of Guinea's new laws on research and innovation.

  For GenerIA, already internationally recognized for its secure, sovereign, and carbon-neutral AI models, this partnership represents a major breakthrough: for the first time, a nation is committing to deploy a French-language AI designed from the ground up to reflect its culture, its needs and its vision of the digital future - an AI truly built for it.
