Digital growth is transforming the way we live -- and our environment as well.

Information technologies now accounts for about 6% of greenhouse gas emissions. That's already a lot.

Over the next 10 years, as artificial intelligence applications become widespread, trend studies predict that this footprint will exceed 18% -- or two-thirds of global emissions from the transportation industry -- if nothing is done to significantly reduce it.

 This is GenerIA's raison d'être: to design truly carbon neutral AIs based on six greenwashing-free commitments:

    Systematic testing and measurement

    Claiming to be carbon neutral is one thing, proving it is quite another. To help our clients achieve their environmental objectives, every GenerIA solution comes with its own carbon footprint report for overall training and typical inference. More importantly, GenerIA solutions return highly detailed energy and carbon metrics with every result they produce. These numbers allow for fine-grained CO2 emissions quantification and, in fine, total decarbonization, traceable and certified by independent bodies.

    HPC-level energy efficiency

    As High Performance Computing development veterans, we know from experience that efficient programming translates into less infrastructure, less computing power and less network exchange, both at server(s) level and at the edge. Our technologies systematically implement HPC best practices, the only ones capable of making exaflop-scale supercomputers an operational reality. Deeply optimized algorithms and models is not only engineering elegance -- one of GenerIA's corporate values -- it's the cleanest possible act with respect to our environment.

    Embeddable AIs and lightweight network loads

    We take pride in developing AIs that are efficient and smart enough to be embedded into low-consumption devices or mobile apps (10-50W switchable vs 1000W avg permanent + cooling for an API server). When models size or inference requirements don't cut it, we consistenly design the leanest possible APIs and payloads to reduce service and network energy needs to the minimum.

    Reduce time to information

    Time to information depends on the way data can be found, accessed, interoperated and reused. Reducing it requires applications capable of understanding both users and the data they address. By working based on meaning (as opposed to keywords and other obsolete technologies), GenerIA's solutions represent a quantum leap in efficiency for our clients. Think 1 API call vs 5 to 10. Meaning is just as green as it is magical.

    Smart storage, no duplication

    Storage is no longer just the persistence of files. Today's applications have become multi-tiered, with increasingly distributed information. GenerIA's solutions are capable of reading and ingesting data and documents directly from within their datastores. No duplication, no back-and-forth: by using the right combination of locality, virtuality and vectorization, our technologies require zero additional storage energy.
